ITiCSE Proposal Information

The ACM Special Interest Group for Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) conference, Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education (ITiCSE), has been held in Europe annually since 1996. This conference brings approximately two hundred delegates from all over the world to address pressing issues in computing education. In addition to paper, panel and poster sessions, the conference provides facilities and exposure for working groups of up to ten members, whose final reports may be published by SIGCSE. Exhibits and tutorials are also offered.

ITiCSE has been hosted by universities whose computing faculty are committed to the improvement of computing education. SIGCSE seeks proposals from universities interested in hosting ITiCSE. The conference normally takes place during the last week of June.

The typical conference schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday Working groups arrive and meet
  • Sunday Working groups meet, delegates arrive, opening reception
  • Monday Conference opening, Keynote speech, followed by a full day of sessions
  • Tuesday A.M.: Plenary meeting followed by sessions
  • Tuesday P.M.: Tourist excursion(s)
  • Tuesday Evening: Conference Dinner
  • Wednesday Plenary meeting followed by a full day of sessions
  • Poster sessions at coffee breaks Monday through Wednesday.

An initial proposal to host ITiCSE must address the following:

  • Availability of a lecture hall for the plenary sessions seating 200 or more people.
  • Availability of at least three lecture halls for parallel sessions each seating 80 or more people.
  • Availability of a poster session/coffee break space.
  • Availability of rooms with network and printer access for working groups.
  • Excursion opportunities.
  • Availability and cost of accommodations (on and/or off campus).
  • Availability and cost of food and beverage options.
  • Transportation issues for off campus housing.
  • Administrative or facility costs.

Note that all lecture halls must have computer projection and internet connectivity. After the initial proposal, follow-up conversations will cover various additional details.
